NEAR-RECORD COLD MONDAY MORNING

Written by: Bob Metcalfe

Wowza, it'll be cold Monday morning. The old record stands at -10 in 1963, and that could fall pretty easily if clear skies prevail over the airport. Temperatures in the protected southern tier areas will fall into the low negative teens.

Because of the extreme cold, and even with a 5 or 10 mph wind, you can expect windchill values of -10 to -20, which has prompted an area-wide Wind Chill advisory. Make sure to dress everybody warm early tomorrow, and of course to keep in mind the warmth of your pets as well!

Sunshine will prevail on Monday too, but high temperatures will struggle to reach the upper teens at absolute best.

  1. Its cold now. Hard to keep the house warm, you can feel the cold dry air blowing right through the house. We going to see any snow tonight?

  4. I care about it. It is extremely cold and going to get worse. I had to throw some extra weather strip on the garage door tonight. Going to be much worse in the morning. I hope people remember their pets in this weather and to keep a drip in the faucet if need be so that it doesn't freeze! How long is this artic cold going to last? I thought it was only a day or two.

  8. All the models are trending East. It will be a miss for Tuesday-Wednesday. Albany NWS is talking about measuring the snow with a yardstick in their area which will get hit very hard once again. The little storm next Saturday will go to our North and West taking most of the mositure with it. Another miss. This is such waste of cold air. We are half way through winter and still no synoptic storm has hit us.

  13. Models are now agreeing that the next storm will be way to far east and will not impact us at all.

  14. Looks like we will never get a synoptic storm. Chris even with us being positive it stays east maybe we need to start going negative.

  15. LOL, Henry, I you may be onto something! If I were still in Nashville, I would be getting more snow!! I know that it really stinks we can not get our fair share. I have it worse seeing how I am far from the LES snow that you get. At least you get more than I do even if it is off the lake. The bitter cold without a good storm with it is a huge let down. Even my truck agrees as it turned over very slowly this morning! I guess I had better get a new battery in it before there is a protest! Oh well, when is the next storm coming down the line that will misss us Henry?
