What would a Sunday/Monday be without a Winter Storm Warning during the month of February. Again, what are folks seeing for the Sunday/Monday. There is talk of another Winter Storm -- would like local weather folks to begin to talk about the possibility. Who cares about the cold. This one looks like it's going to have a robust southern stream influence as the persistent energy in Mexico sends some sweet tender love up into the states. The GFS and the Euro presently take the storm across the southeast with impacts primarily south of the Mason-Dixon line, but the ensemble means as well as the other major models all take the low much further north. That fact plus an expected continuation of the +NAO/+AO couplet says the following regarding the GFS and Euro solutions:

http://allthingsd.com/files/2012/11/red_flags.jpg

In other words: expect a north trend to commence at some point on those models. How far it goes remains to be seen, although a track along the lines of the ensemble means would probably spell fun times in our region once again. No way of telling what specific sensible impact we'll eventually contend with from this far out, so just keep the general potential in mind for now.Mantis Tobogganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11104491137465766315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5793508672957135735.post-17702880142177061582015-02-10T18:12:01.829-05:002015-02-10T18:12:01.829-05:00I can see more than modest amounts if the clipper ...I can see more than modest amounts if the clipper tracks close enough. I can see that scenario playing out similar to the one from January, where we puke pixie dust that gets whipped around and makes it look like a winter storm at times despite only a modest amount of actual accumulation. Thursday looks better for fluff until the temp crashes and the dendritic growth zone lowers and shrinks. NAM BUFKIT indicates a period of moderate snow during the late morning and early afternoon on Thursday with a short period of strong lift intersecting the dendritic growth zone. I'm actually slightly more intrigued by that period than I am by the lake effect. Never been a huge fan of the type of short fetch/frigid air lake effect event that this one will be.Mantis Tobogganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11104491137465766315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5793508672957135735.post-66236985693442762672015-02-10T17:14:58.811-05:002015-02-10T17:14:58.811-05:00You must be lost.

Snow plow operators need some time to figure out where to put all of the snow. Look at business, apt parking lots, and even private driveways. The snow is beginning to pile up and there is little room to put it all. You make feel differently, but I bet when it begins to melt and we have flooding issues -- folks might think a little differently. Just my opinion. We'll get enough snow to build our pack a little more, but the intensely cold air coupled with the wind could match last season's early January outbreak in terms of wind chill, especially on Sunday.
