WINDY AND WET STUFF SOON!

Written by: Bob Metcalfe

Monday's weather is too simple, with sun and warmer air for a brief day, so I have to look for something more "fun" to talk about. Ahh, here it is! This is the NAM forecast for late Tuesday night and you can't miss the storm rolling up the western Great Lakes region. The tightly spaced isobars lead me to believe that we'll see winds 25-35mph at times with potentially higher gusts. Some rainfall totals I've looked at suggest 1-2" of rain from Tuesday night through Wednesday morning. This could draw up some flood concern in the susceptible areas by Wednesday afternoon. Behind this storm, the cold air shuffles in and could very well bring at least some scattered snow shower activity to close the week out.

  1. Bob,
How does the mean flow look for the Wednesday PM through Saturday period? Unless we get a good WNW mean flow with sufficient moisture and good alignment, we'll be left high and dry yet again, while areas well to our east and SW get heavy snow.

  3. Your right. The winds will either be West or SW leaving the Rochester area high and dry once again. I want to shoot for the least snowiest winter. Under 29 inches. Lets do it.

  4. Seriously, it's sad that we're even mentioning snow showers at a time that by then will be December as if it's some sort of event. Between last winter and now, our standards are getting to be more like Virginia or something. At this point, I don't even know what it's going to take to get snow around here. Especially synoptic snow. I feel like i've relocated to the mid atlantic states, where snow happens occasionally, but it's hard to come by. Is this global warming?
