The arctic air has arrived and temperatures will continue to fall through the morning and into the afternoon. Temps as I came in at 3:30am were above freezing but as I write this during the 6am hour Rochester is in the mid 20s and Buffalo at 19.
With the rain we saw Sunday and how quickly temperatures have been falling people will need to give themselves plenty of time and watch for icy spots on area roadways. Want to make sure everyone gets to where they are going on time and safely.
Lake Effect snow warnings go into effect for Monroe, Wayne and Ontario counties this afternoon and continue into Wednesday afternoon. Today, I think the snow gets fired later this afternoon. Some locations, especially those north of the I-90 Thruway up to the 104 corridor could see 1 to 3 inches with others seeing a coating to maybe an inch.
As for the lake effect snow amounts over the next three days, the thinking has not changed from Bob and Scott. Remember with the map of 12-20 inches for parts of Orleans, Monroe, Wayne and Ontario counties by Wednesday afternoon is not saying everyone will see 20" or even 2 feet of snow. Those will be more localized scenarios from persistent snow bands.

ReplyDeleteSnow is falling steady now. Started as graupel. Now just flakes. Looks like multiple, thin bands are starting to show themselves across the lake embedded within the synoptic.
ReplyDeleteStill have a decent snow cover at my house on the east side of Roc...just a few green patches. The warmer temps wasn't a match for the thick snowpack.
In Gananda we lost a lot of snow, but we maintained a white ground. Here in Victor it is all bare ground.
ReplyDeleteSorm for next weekend still shows developing of the East Coast and missing us. We will see if it starts moving west like every other storm.
ReplyDeleteWarmth and rain melted most of the snow here in Hilton, although we didn't have too much to begin with from the last "event". The ground is mostly grass now, however it has been snowing very lightly for a couple hours and we now have a dusting over the grass. Hoping we don't get missed entirely over the next couple days!

ReplyDeleteDo you see blowing and drifting becoming an issue similar to what's going on in Cleveland right now? Or won't we get those impacts?
It is possible. There are no wind advisories but with wind gust possible of 25-30 mph this afternoon and into tonight and the light fluffy nature of the snow, blowing and drifting will be a concern. Especially as the snow begins to pile up tonight into Tuesday.

Oh yea, I know exactly where you're talking about - right by the airport. That made national news. God bless our local first responders. They are the best in the business, and handled the situation with so much calm and professionalism that it just about gives one goose bumps.

ReplyDeleteSnowing pretty hard in Fairport right now. Looks like a good swath left to come on the radar. News 8 is this lake effect or synoptic snow? It looks like synoptic if yes then will lake effect be later or will there a long break from the snow?
ReplyDeleteNews 8 in your opinion, lake Ontario is extremely warm at the current time. Do you think that this if the winds stay right and witht the duration of the LES snow that this is going to be a little bit more than originally thought for the metro?
