SUMMER WAS COOL, SURPRISED?
Written By: Scott Hetsko
From the "no duh" file, Summer of 2009 was cooler than average for not only Rochester but most of the United States. Only 3 states saw well above average temperatures, Washington, Texas and Florida. The Midwest and Great Lakes states were much below average while the Northeast was below average.
A recurring upper level trough held the June-August temperatures down in the central states, where Michigan experienced its fifth, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and South Dakota their seventh, Nebraska its eighth, and Iowa its ninth coolest summer. I expect this trend to persist through Autumn and maybe into most of the upcoming Winter...stay tuned!
