NEW MONTH NEW WEEK SUMMER HEAT RETURNS

Written by: Brian Neudorff

We had a nice break from the summer heat at the end of July as highs late last week through the weekend were in the mid 70s to 80. The heat and steam that we've become familiar with this summer returns to start the month of August. An area of high pressure will settle off the east coast for the next few day pumping in warmer temps and more moisture.

With the heat and steam in place for the next couple of day there are chances of scattered shower and storms popping up in the afternoon but most of the time is expected to be dry. Tuesday night into Wednesday morning there could be a few more showers and storms as a disturbance moves through but both of these days will be very warm as highs reach the upper 80s.

The next significant change in our weather comes on Thursday as a cold front will move through the region. This will bring a few showers and storms but it will also bring cooler and drier air for the end of the week and into the weekend.

  1. Brian,
What's the status on la nina? Are we officially in one now? Is it a strong one? Could that have any implications on the winter? I remember 2007-08 being a fairly potent la nina and we had a pretty nasty winter from time to time.

  2. I wanted to respond to your question, to be honest haven't checked the status of the La Nina yet, but yes any La Nina that forms will have an impact on our weather.

Once I or the rest of the weather team takes a look at the status we will let you know. Thanks for your comment and question

  6. When will the heat go away? I am so tired of this. If the reverse were occurring, if it was November and we were having snow almost every day, everyone would be out of their minds, shouting "when will it stop?" More El Nino, El Nina information and the impact on our weather, please.
