NICOLE AND NEW YORK
Written by: Bob Metcalfe
What is now Tropical Storm Nicole will have a large impact on New York state, but not necessarily OUR portion of it. At left is the 8pm forecast for Thursday night and as you can see, there is a big difference in the rainfall amounts in the Catskills and CNY as compared to our neck of the woods. Our saving grace? A cold front marching eastward just as the tropical moisture reaches the northeast, which actually acts as our defense mechanism against an "major" rainfall.
However, half of our viewing area is under a flood watch through late Thursday night. The rainfall amounts have been estimated at 2-4" in our easternmost counties over a 9 hour period starting Thursday afternoon. Affected counties are Wayne, Ontario, and Cayuga.
Beyond Thursday, you can expect late fall conditions. Temperatures will plummet into the low or mid 50s at BEST during the weekend. Although there is a very limited chance of a few rain showers at times off of the lakes, most of the weekend should remain dry albeit cool, with a little sunshine in the mix at times.
Don't worry, there's still plenty of time left for the tropics to wreak havoc in the US. The next 2-3 weeks could be interesting!
Is this a foreshadowing of how the winter will go. STorms moving up the east coast and missing Western, NY????? All too familiar pattern.
ReplyDeleteThis pattern would mean some humdingers on the coast this Winter. Time will tell as always.
