GEAR UP FOR SOME GUSTS!
Written by: Bob Metcalfe
So this is what a windy day looks like in forecast model-land. This is the name early Saturday morning, and as you can see there is a well-wrapped low pressure system in the extreme northeast. But what grabs you here (or SHOULD grab you) is the tightly pack isobars (or lines of equal pressure.) The closer they are together, the higher the wind speed. Why is that? It's based on a bunch of physics principals and formulas that kept me up for days on end in college. I'm actually not exaggerating there one bit!
So throughout the day Friday things will pick up into the 15-25 mph range or so, and continue into early Saturday. Gusts above 30 should be expected at times as well. Fortunately the sun will try to work in gradually leaving us with improving conditions for most of the weekend.
