Brisk & Chilly Today, but Payback Come Tomorrow

Written by John DiPasquale:

A pocket of cold air aloft & down at the ground with an upper air disturbance & surface trough will make today pretty gray, & a bit unsettled with a few scattered showers. There may even be a few flakes of snow mixing in today across hills.

However, after a chilly mainly quiet night tonight, high pressure will build in from the west, as you can see the H near Lake Michigan in the pic to the left, & set us up for a gorgeous looking & seasonably mild Saturday! After experiencing the first completely dry day here in Rochester in 15 days, we will likely have to contend with a few scattered showers/storm late Sunday morning & afternoon, but by no means will Sunday be a washout.

Early next week may begin with an shower or two to kick off Monday, otherwise it looks dry & cool for the first half of next week. COULD IT BE?? A good 3 day stretch of dry weather next week. We will have to watch a potential Nor'Easter come next Wednesday/Thursday, but at this juncture it appears that it will be a wide right scenario. Keep your fingers crossed that this remains the case over the coming days.

Have a great day & weekend everyone!

  1. After all of this rain for day after day, the timing for our first completely dry and beautifully sunny day just happens to arrive on a Saturday. Seriously, could the timing be any more perfect? This may be one of the most deserved break we've caught weather-wise in a long time!

Enjoy the weekend John, Stacey and Scott!

  3. I'm watching the Royal Wedding. How come all of the trees are fully leafed already in London? It looks like it could already be June or something there. I thought that London had a cooler climate in the summer? Anyway, just wondering since that caught my attention. Thanks.

  4. Hi Carol,

They do have an overall cooler climate than us, but the sea does protect them from frigid outbreaks in the winter & really any late season big cold snaps that may occur. Therefore, the trees more often than not do become green before trees around here. Thanks for watching News 8 & have a great weekend & enjoy tomorrow's gorgeous weather!

  6. I have not heard of any funnel clouds reported but it certainly is possible. There was a lot of general rotation so a few rotating storms were reported. Remember that a funnel clouds isn't a tornado. Have a great weekend!
