More Rain on the Way

Written by John DiPasquale:

I hope everyone enjoyed the nice weather over the weekend, because it appears Mother Nature is going to settle back into her old ways, as more rain is on tap for the area today through Wednesday. The heaviest will likely fall late tonight into tomorrow thanks to a cold front shown in the graphic to the left is expected to stall out just to the east across CNY tonight/early tomorrow. This will set the stage for the developing low down south to ride the front up into our vicinity likely leading to a chilly, wet Tuesday. Highs on Tuesday will struggle to make 50 or so! Yuck! There could also be some flooding in spots if we in fact receive the projected inch or two of rain out of this system.

Behind Tuesday's storm, the rains will taper to a few scattered showers, but it will be blustery & remain chilly through Wednesday. Overall lousy pattern still looks to hold, for the most part, through at least mid May.

John - what kind of jet scream or "weather pattern" is creating this dismal, cloudy, rainy, cool weather? You mentioned this pattern will hold until Mid-May. I know its hard to predict long-term but What are your preliminary thoughts about our summer (June, July, August).

  3. The Winter That Wouldn't End is followed by the Rain That Wouldn't End. Enough already. Ugh.

  4. On the plus side... I have very green grass. On the negative...it's neck high because it's always to wet to mow it when I have time off.

  5. Where are all those Bermuda highs that set up shop and give us a prolonged period of sunny warm weather?

  6. Hi Michele,

Yes, the jet stream unfortunately has been positioned more often than not this spring just to the south & east. This allows the unusually chilly air to invade from the northwest out of Canada & puts us close enough to the north side of these storm systems that we receive a good amount of rain. When the jet has been northwest of us, it hasn't been too far to the northwest, which makes it warmer, but not that dry. Basically, we can't win, but at least we haven't had a lot of devasting weather here thus far like our friends down south & west with all the tornadoes & flooding. It could be worse. Trying to be optimistic. Yes, I still don't see any major changes in this pattern through at least mid May. We'll see. I do remember having very cool & wet springs turn on a dime into hot & dry summer's around Memorial Day, but this pattern seems quite stubborn so I'm not so sure this will be one of those years. Stay tuned. Have a great day Michele!

  7. You got that right Noah! Mother Nature is certainly not being so kind to us here in the northeast this spring.

  8. Let's see...we'll have a mainly dry day Thursday & again probably Saturday. So hopefully your lawn will dry out enough to mow for you. Good luck with that Caledonia!

    Sal,

Trough is way to persistent for those to really develop & take hold right now. We'll have to see if one of those Bermuda highs can take hold late this month or next month. It all depends on getting a break from this pesky upper level trough. Have a great day Sal & Caledonia!
