Stubborn Low Clouds Slowly Break Up?

Written by John DiPasquale:

Forecast challenge today is...when will the clouds break up this afternoon?? We had breaks of sun to begin the day, but the low clouds really moved in during the morning & now do not want to leave! I still do believe we will get some breaks of sun out later this afternoon after 2 or 3 into this evening, but it looks like it will be a struggle with the cool, moist northeast flow off Lake Ontario. With that being said, temperatures will make it no higher than 70 to 75 today.

High pressure that's building in today, even though you would not know it, will keep us dry, pleasant & brighter on our Saturday. However, our friends to the east in Eastern New York, New England, NYC, & the Mid-Atlantic coast will be bracing themselves for Irene's wrath Saturday night into Sunday. At this point, it looks like Irene will make a second landfall following her first in the Outer Banks of N.C., on Sunday in NYC or just east across Long Island. If this in fact does play out, which it looks like it's going to this would spell lots wind damage, flooding & power outages in the forementioned areas Saturday night through Sunday night. Here in WNY, it appears will we feel some wind, clouds at times & maybe a shower or two across the Finger Lakes, but that should be just about it! I actually believe we will probably have some sun here in Rochester & across much of WNY Sunday. It will be windy & cool, though, as highs will likely only be between 70 & 75 Sunday. Stay tuned to News 8 for the latest regarding Irene through the rest of today & into the weekend. The weather will improve greatly for all next week as we round out August & begin September. Thank goodness, right?! There will likely be A LOT of clean-up needed across the northeast after this beast.

  4. ARE THEY NOT BLOWING THIS SO ALED WEAK HURICANE TOTALLY OUT OF PROPORTION. YOU WOULD THINK THE WORLD WAS ENDING IN NYC. BY THE TIME IT GETS THERE IT WILL BE NOTHING MORE THAN A STRONG NOREASTER. LOOK AT THE LEFT QUADRANT OF THE STORM. IT IS TOTALLY WEAKING. DRY AIR IS FILTERING IN ON THE LEFT SIDE. I THINK IT IS FUNNY HOW WE HUMANS BLOW THINGS WAY OUT OF PROPORATION AND WASTE MONEY.
