Blustery, Nasty Start to October!
Written by John DiPasquale:
Intervals of sun fading behind more clouds later this afternoon in advance of a slow moving, strong cold front that will cross the area late tonight/early Saturday with some showers. If you are heading out to football/soccer games or haunted hayrides there could be a spotty shower or two, but it should be pretty dry. My advice if you are heading out this evening would be to have the umbrella handy in case a shower or two passes through, as there will likely be a few around.
The first couple of days of October this weekend will be controlled by a nor'easter that will develop tomorrow near NYC. Between strong high pressure across the Central Great Lakes & the nor'easter just east of us, winds will howl out of the north which will accentuate the chill & make it feel more like the 30s & 40s, despite highs in the low 50s Saturday & Sunday. The heaviest rains will likely fall Saturday night into Sunday morning, as the nor'easter inches to the west, closer to WNY. Rains will likely slowly taper some later Sunday & may even mix with a bit of snow/mix across the highest terrain south of the thruway Saturday night & Sunday!
Unfortunately, this storm will be a slow mover at the surface & aloft, keeping us a bit unsettled Monday before finally clearing out more significantly & warming the temperatures to more seasonable levels come Tuesday afternoon. Beyond Tuesday, at this time, looks great with sun & at or above average temperatures possibly developing! By the way, Wednesday &/or Thursday morning may feature the first frost for many. Stay tuned.
Try to stay warm & dry this weekend! Have a great one WNY!
