Mild Start to December
Written by: Stacey Pensgen
If you're a winter weather fanatic, this is the last thing you want to see. Especially after last winter. I know. The first week of December will be on the mild side, especially the first few days. We're seeing an active weather pattern with 3 cold fronts swinging through in the first week of the month, but no real cold air following those fronts. Yes, it'll be chilly on Wednesday with highs back in the 30s for most and maybe a little lake effect snow, but that blast is short-lived, with temperatures back in the 40s by week's end.
However, it looks like things are trying to change by the middle of the month, with signs of some arctic air pouring south, and some true winter chill headed our way. So, if you're looking for a white Christmas, or just a white December day, don't give up!
Not giving up. In fact I'm becoming more convinced we get a chance at a wintry period between the 12th and 25th. Even a cutter early in the period won't discourage me. Sometimes we need those to set up a better pattern.

ReplyDeleteTAKING ALL OF THIS INTO ACCOUNT...TEMPERATURES DURING THE NEXT TWO
WEEKS ARE MORE LIKELY TO AVERAGE AT OR ABOVE NORMAL...WITH ONLY THE
OCCASIONAL INTRUSION OF SEASONABLY COLD AIR. ANY SUCH COLD SHOT WILL
LIKELY GIVE WAY TO PACIFIC WARMING WITHIN A COUPLE DAYS. FOR WHAT
ITS WORTH...THE CLIMATE PREDICTION CENTER IS ALSO FAVORING A HIGHER
CHANCE FOR ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES DURING THIS PERIOD.
Thanks Anonymous - we can take the info in your post and file it in the "No S%$t, Sherlock file". Stacey's post was for the second half of the month.
ReplyDelete500 mb ensembles still favor a colder than normal pattern developing by mid month, though nothing extreme. Considering that the average high by then is the mid 30's, I will take it.
ReplyDeleteRain made it a good day to decorate the Christmas tree. MAYBE we will see some white stuff before long to make the season alittle more complete.
ReplyDeleteGFS goes a little bananas with the cold in the fantasy range. Euro looked like a gradient pattern to me. Maybe I don't know what a gradient pattern looks like?
