SNOWFALL MAP LATER THIS AFTERNOON
Written By: Scott Hetsko
I know many on the blog have been wondering what our snow forecast will be for late Friday through Saturday. I will publish that map along with a discussion by 4 p.m. this afternoon. I remain confident in a plow able snow for most areas with blowing and drifting of snow as well on Saturday. Should be plenty to keep around for Christmas.
What is the thought on snowfall for us in the southerntier...Wayland/Dansville area? Does it look like we will get less than Rochester?
ReplyDeleteSure. Keep us all in suspense.... :)
ReplyDeleteFrom the NWS at 108PM
ReplyDelete* Timing... early Friday evening through early Saturday evening.
* Hazards... snow and blowing snow.
* Accumulations... 1 to 3 inches Friday night... 2 to 3 inches
Saturday... leading to storm totals of 3 to 6 inches. Locally
higher amounts across the Bristol hills.
* Winds... west 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 35 mph producing blowing
and drifting snow.
Hopefully a white Christmas! That will be great.

Winter Weather Advisory just issued. 1-3 inches Friday night, 2-3 inches Saturday for a total of 3-6 inches. Not too shabby.
ReplyDeletei'll take it although i am just anticipating those on here that will come on here and complain its not a foot!
ReplyDeleteI predicted several things the other day.
Delete1. The amount of complaining will be inversely proportional to the amount of snow we get. (Some, like Macedon, will complain no matter what we get.)
2. We'll get the typical news stories about the snow that could be run from archive footage and no one would know the difference.
3. Wegman's will be busy (but isn't it always, especially before holiday)

Can you say DUD especially when Scott in his post the other day was talking possibly up to a foot in the metro.
ReplyDeleteYeah, POSSIBLY. I'll say it again, POSSIBLY. As in, up to a foot was POSSIBLE, IF and ONLY IF the perfect setup occurred. It was mentioned many, many times that a lot of details still needed to be ironed out, and now those details have been ironed out for the most part. As it turns out we won't get that perfect setup, but 3-6 inches is still nice and should get us a decent white Christmas. Now shut the h#ll up and get ready to enjoy some snow.
Deleteoh give it a rest. so you think you can do better? otherwise nobody wants to hear your know it all attitude.
DeleteSome of you take "possibly" to be definitely. Sort of like how children listen---You only hear what you want to hear. Really gets old.
DeleteIt looks like it's going to be a white Christmas and that will be appreciated by most.

The negativity is pretty ridiculous since this thing is turning out more or less exactly like most of us expected. I'd be surprised if we got 8" which was my guess for our little contest but 6" looks like a real possibility and that's more in the neighborhood of what most of the blog guessed earlier this week. Add the winds into the equation and we're looking at a fun Saturday, with LES probably continuing into Sunday. I can't remember the last time we had a forecast that looked this good. Whiners.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile for all the model huggers, the latest GFS looks great for us with regards to next weeks storm. Just waitin on the Euro now.
ReplyDeleteEuro has a sub 970 mb low over the Finger Lakes. That scenario seems rather impossible to me. Waiting for the ensembles now.
DeleteEnsembles look decent and Euro does too, albeit not as nice as the GFS. Regardless it's cool to have an event to be watching both in the short-term and the long-term.
DeleteI agree jo-sef, well said. lets ignore negativity. they will get tired of typing it if we don't acknowledge it.
ReplyDeleteI just want to open the curtains Saturday morning and see a white landscape. Just cover the grass at least. Seems like it has been a long time since I've seen that.
ReplyDeleteJust finished waxing the bottom of the kids sled.
Caledonia too! thanks Scott! I depend on you for travels!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and yours!
g'morning! I just counted a few (5 or 6) flakes in Caledonia. 9am
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
