Sue Farley from Spencerport sent us this picture with what looks like a rainbow in the sky! This is actually a phenomenon called tangent arc. The shapes of the arcs change with the elevation of the sun. At high sun angles, the arcs curve toward the sun. When the sun is low in the sky, the arcs curve away from the sun. They are fairly common when cirrus clouds are present on a sunny day!

  1. It would be great if more locals sent in pictures of cool weather sightings. I know I've had a few times I wish I had a camera, and could only imagine the others I've missed entirely. Let's get posting!
