What Is The Jet Stream?
On this map, the jet stream is shown as the red arrows moving across the US. What the jet stream actually is, is a highway of winds high in the atmosphere that guides storms around the globe. Also known as the storm track, it typically also divides the placement of warmer and cooler air. In the Northern Hemisphere, cooler air resides to the north of the jet stream, while warmer air resides to the south.
