Can Weather Move From East To West?

The answer is, "Yes." The spiral of clouds pictured here on the satellite imagery, centered over about Pittsburgh, PA, is a storm which affected Western New York with plenty of clouds and some rain over the past 24 hours. The strange part about this system is, though, that it, as well as its clouds and rain, are moving from East to West. How could this happen?

Well, here the jet stream, or storm track, is right now oriented with its winds blowing from Southeast to Northwest. This drags the storm along and allows it to move from the Atlantic coastline, inland. This has made for some pretty strange and erratic storm movement over the past couple of days.

  1. I have a friend who lives in Cleveland, and the weather they have there is what we usually get the next day. So yes, I have no doubt weather moves west to east.
