Dean Landfalls As Monster Category 5 Storm
Hurricane Dean made landfall today around 4:30 AM in Costa Maya, Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula as a potentially catastrophic Category 5 hurricane. At landfall, Dean had winds of 165 mph, carrying a possible storm surge of 12 to 18 feet, and 5" to locally 20" of rain. The last storm to make landfall as a Category 5 in the Atlantic Basin was Andrew back in 1992!
