Hottest Summer Since 2002
Written by: Scott Hetsko
If you have a yard, you know it's been a dry summer. Often drought and heat go hand in hand and this summer was no exception! From late May through early September, Rochester recorded 16 days above 90 degrees. The hottest day was July 9th when the mercury soared to 96 degrees. This summer, the sun's energy wasn't working on slurping up ground water. That meant more energy is used to heat the ground which results in higher afternoon temperatures. Coincidentally, 2002 was also a very dry summer.
