Three Weeks, Two Category 5 Landfalls
Written by: Jonathan Myers
Central America is again getting raked by a Category 5 Hurricane this morning. With Hurricane Dean's landfall on August 21, this makes for the second Category 5 landfall this season and in just a very short timespan of only about 2 weeks! What's notable as well is the close proximity that the storm track is to where Dean's path was. This again is affecting Central America. This time, Honduras and Nicaragua were at the bulls-eye of the storm. Earlier this morning, at landfall, 18' or more of storm surge, 5" to locally 20" of rain, and 160 mph winds were all possible.

ReplyDeleteI'm gonna be down in Florida in two weeks. Is there any way you can tell me what the weather is going to be like? IE: Hurricanes? I'd hate to see my vacation ruined by huricanes, although it would make a really good story to tell the grandkids.
ReplyDeleteToo early to really tell the exact forecast for two weeks in advance. Here are two things to consider, though. Middle and late September, on average, are the peak of hurricane season. Though, the good news is, in our current pattern we've had a sprawling fair-weather system over the Southern U.S. This has been blocking any tropical weather well down to the South of the United States. Hopefully, if this dominant pattern sticks around, your travel plans should be A-OK.
