What's This... SNOW!?
Written By: Brian Neudorff
Who would have thought a small, four letter word starting with "s" could get so many people worked up. Yes, I am talking about snow. It seems most people I talk to don't like snow but there are a those who love it just as much as those who hate it. Whether you love it or hate it looks like we will get a taste of snow later this week.
The attached picture is a 72 hour precipitation forecast for Rochester, NY from one of the computer models we looks at. This model starts at 2am EDT or 06Z (Zulu time or UTC coordinated universal time), it is called the North American Mesoscale Model or NAM for short. This model is printing out rain overnight Monday into Tuesday morning. With more precipitation Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night and the blue indicates snow.
A cold front is forecasted to move through Western New York late Monday Night and into early Tuesday morning, with some very cold air behind it. Once this cold air settles in we will have scattered showers and into Tuesday night the air will be cold enough for a rain snow mix with some locations, like the higher elevations of the Southern Tier and areas east of Lake Ontario, could see all snow at times with a slushy accumulation of snow on grassy surfaces possible.
It shouldn't amount to much, but it should snow none the less. Check back to RochesterHomepage.net and News8 Now and FOX Rochester for your latest weather forecast.
