ADIOS SINGLE DIGITS!
Written by: Bob Metcalfe
Isn't it odd to find yourself truly looking forward to the high 20's, and DREAMING about the 30's? This recent stretch of bitter cold air, which left Rochester at one point with a coldest reading of 0 degrees at the airport, will finally press on eastward. I'm sure there will be many sad goodbyes, and tears that won't quite freeze on contact.
So the good news is that the single digits are for now a thing of the past, the bad news is that we will still technically be below average for several more days. This means highs in the upper 20's for most of the week. The map above shows the setup through the middle of the week, with a nice, chilly trough still dug out over the east coast.
But I do see a silver lining. Take a look to the west. They have seen a stretch of incredibly MILD weather. As we all know, this can't last forever (can it?), so what we are likely to see evolve over time is our cold notch erased slowly but surely. If we can get a nice northward push of the jet stream, we could even see some "mild" air for a time. Although it won't happen over the next several days, it is still a nice idea to having floating in our heads!
