FORGET CHRISTMAS, HOW ABOUT A WHITE THANKSGIVING

Written By: Scott Hetsko

Indications are coming into focus about a major shift in our weather beginning next week. A progressively colder and more active pattern will set up beginning next Wednesday. A series of low pressure will dive out of Canada with one becoming closed off over the Northeast on Thanksgiving day. We are still a week away so the fine details will most certainly change but at this point I expect colder air and occasional snow or snow showers to fall in our area.

So after a fairly mild and sunny November to this point, one of our first visits from old man Winter looks to be coming soon!

  1. Finally, a break from this boring weather. But what happens after this initial Thanksgiving cool down? I've heard that this isn't the real pattern change that would send us into the deep freeze, and that some things are working against any true polar air for quite awhile, like the MJO, a weak PNA and a moderate el nino. I heard a meteorologist say that if not for those factors, this would be the huge pattern change that would plunge us into a long, cold spell; but it won't. Are there any signs that a true polar plunge is coming that would send us into a semi-permanent pattern change toward more severe cold and snow?

  2. That's hard to say but we will see a progressively colder pattern the first week of December. Much of the Winter to come will be consistent with it's inconsistency! That is to say that I believe we will experience much flucuation in temperature this winter. Out Winter Outlook will debut online Saturday night!
