TROPICS NO LONGER QUIET, SAY HELLO TO IDA
Written by: Brian Neudorff
The tropics are no longer quiet, on Wednesday, Ida, the ninth named storm of the 2009 Atlantic Hurricane Season, formed. Then early Thursday morning, Ida went from a tropical storm to a Hurricane. As of the 7AM, the public advisory from the National Hurricane Center had Ida with maximum sustain winds at 75 mph.
It will make landfall later this morning, and be over land over the next couple of days. What's left of Ida could find its way back over the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico later this weekend but at this time it is way to early to tell if this storm will be any threat to the United States.
