WINTER ARRIVES AFTER THANKSGIVING?
Written by: Brian Neudorff
This forecast is a week and a half away so if you are wanting cold and winter don't get too excited but there definitely looks to be a change in our weather pattern after Thanksgiving into the start of December. The above graphic is for the afternoon on Friday Nov. 27th and it shows some very cold air arriving across the Great Lakes, into the Ohio Valley and the Appalachians. This arrival of cold air could mean the possibility of our first lake effect snows of the season. Yes I know just in time for Black Friday and people returning home after the Thanksgiving holiday.
Keep in mind that not all the models going out to the Friday and weekend after Thanksgiving show the same thing. Another long range model has the cold air delayed a little bit coming in around the weekend to the end of the month. Either way it looks like the cold will arrive sometime in the next 10 to 14 days, so stay tuned.
Speaking of winter weather, this Saturday November 21st at 7:30pm the News 8 Weather Team will broadcast it's Winter Ready 2009 Winter Special. We will look at past winter events, take a look what causes lake effect snow as well as what all those different winter advisories mean. Of course we will also present our thoughts and forecast for the 2009-2010 winter season.
