"CLIMATEGATE" FRESHENS GLOBAL WARMING DEBATE
Written By: Scott Hetsko
This statement may anger you: I do not believe in Al Gore's Global Warming and many in the scientific community don't. I do not believe that the Earth "has a fever" and man made warming will cause a point of no return from which we cannot recover. He made a slick movie with flawed data.
I do know that we can and must be smarter about our energy use for two main reasons:
1) There's not enough fossil fuel to sustain the population much longer.
2) Alternative energy will make us less dependent on other countries.
The recent hacking of emails between researchers seems to suggest that data may have been skewed to favor a certain outcome which goes against the spirit of science itself! I personally am happy that this has come to light if only to open the debate once again on what could be causing Climatic change. The answer to that question is so much more the CO2 and methane! Agree or disagree, fire away!
Way to go, Scotty! I agree about 90% with you, here's where I'll differ. Believe it or not, we are considered the "Saudi Arabia of coal", we have probably the largest coal reserves in the world. Secondly, forget all this glo-bull warming hype, it's all a farce and always has been, every last syllable of it and the recent email hacking...that most media mysteriously won't report on...only goes to support that. The fact is, we could probably burn every cubic inch of all that coal and never see any measurable effect on the ecosystem. However, I'm not saying we should. We have clean burning technologies for coal anyway coupled with the fact that we'd never burn it all all at once even if we could. Next, there are oil reserves right here in the US that rival, if not surpass, that of foreign reserves. That said, I've seen in many articles estimates of enough fossil fuels to last us as much as the next 300 years at our present rates. The bottom line, we have all the energy we'll ever need right here and there is no reason not to use whatever we need. I'm not saying waste it indiscriminately and I'm not saying we shouldn't be looking into alternative fuels, but we will need fossil fuels for a long time before alternative becomes that viable anyway. The winds have been blowing and the sun burning down for 3.5 billion years and it will continue to do so, it only makes sense to make use of it. The thing is, it won't happen overnight, we still need oil and coal for the interim. The good news, contrary to what's become "popular" opinioin, there's NOTHING wrong with it! The ONLY thing wrong is the politics of it all and the agendas they're trying to ram down our throats topped off by getting US to pay for it all! The information is all out there for the taking people, all you have to do is stop listening to Al Gore for a minute and go research it all for yourself.
ReplyDeleteScott, I couldn't agree with you more! And I admire you taking such a strong stance considering your profession is filled with mets and climatologists who have an agenda, and want to silence those who disagree. The Russian scientists, I think, are on to something. It may come down to the sunspots!
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right, Scott. People are giving man WAY too much credit. In the end, it all comes down to CYCLES!
ReplyDeleteHere is a GREAT website, founded by Dr. Joe D'aleo, a brilliant man in the field. It includes many scholarly articles that show man's LACK of influence on our climate.

ReplyDeleteWhat's scary is that Gore's film is being used as an instuctional tool in some grade schools. I can't think of a greater disservice to our children.
ReplyDeleteI became a little suspicious of this whole global warming thing when virtually every weather event, warm or cold, was blamed on global warming. If anyone has any knowledge of meteorology and climatology, it becomes easy to see through these things. I recall a massive flood that occured in Missouri, I believe last summer. People were tying to blame it on global warming when, in fact, a big reason for the floods was from an abnormally cold system in the middle of summer. And how about the big tornado research hunt this spring that turned out to be a dud because it was such a chilly spring with little tornadic activity. Or the strange snow events that have occured in the last couple years in Houston and New Orleans. And do you remember how the horrific southeast drought in the Atlanta area was blamed on global warming? Mets came on the record stating that drought such as this will be more common, and this may be a norm in the southeast due to global warming....hmmm, then mother nature completely erases the drought within a couple months. And then the abnormal cold and snow in London in the last couple winters....that was somehow global warming too. But I digress.
ReplyDeleteI have three words that sum up the mindset of these global warming researchers: HIDE THE DECLINE
ReplyDeleteWhen the only way to get generous funding and respect in your profession is to support a particular idea, and dedicate your work to further "proving" that idea, then it only makes sense that the numbers would be played around with from time to time. It's corruption, and it's a scam. But the beautiful thing is, in the end, the climate will have the final say. It's just a question of how long the scientists sit in denial before they acknowledge that we might actually be going the other way (cold).
The bottom line is that nobody but God knows exactly what man's impact on the weather is when it comes to the global warming debate. However, we do have quite the laundry list of weather data across the entire globe. The global temperature is rising slightly...we know this as a fact. Global glaciers and arctic ice mass are reducing, this is also a fact. We know that we have warmed up over the past couple of decades that part is not questionable. The part that is questionable is how we got here and what that means for the future. There are too many variables to know exactly what we are looking at in the decades ahead.
ReplyDeleteScott, as a meteorologist and a broadcaster I think it is great you chose to post a blog entry about global warming, but I am stunned by you making a political stance through it. You are doing your station and the public a big disservice by making such a political stance. Personally I am not a fan of Al Gore either and do think his video did more harm than good by providing questionable data and by politicizing the topic of Global Warming. This has caused most to make up their mind about manmade warming from a political standpoint. It is unfortunate that most Americans are not open minded about the issue including yourself. After all global warming is a science issue not a political issue and should be treated as one.
I don't recall where Scott made a political issue but I haven't read it since yesterday. The fact is, it's ALL political! It is completely junk "science" to forward a political agenda. In fact, the only thing "global" about global warming IS the political agenda...and nothing more. Further, it is not a "fact" that the global temp is rising, moreover, the facts appear that it has been cooling since 1998 so the "fact" that we have warmed over the past decades is most certainly questionable! You will also find many reports about the antarctic ice sheet expanding not to mention other facts that will show you that the ice sheets (both) expand and contract on an annual basis...they have their "summers" and winters too. That tells me that all one has to do is acquire sat photos 6 months apart and make up any "fact" they want. Goreite's and their ilk will eat it up! Also, are you aware of the last millenium's 300 or 400 year warming trend where global temps were considerably higher than this century, followed by the "mini ice age"? This planet has been doing as it pleases forever and will continue to do so. Trying to compare temp trends for the last 500 years and making a case for it is akin to walking out on a beach, picking up a specific grain of sand and saying "oh, this one is different from ALL the rest!!" THERE'S your bottom line!
ReplyDeleteAnd while I'm at it I'll say a couple things about this "carbon footprint" garbage. Now that the rest of the world may finally wake up and realize like the rest of us that Mann's "hockey stick" theory was the junk science that started it all, more and more REAL scientists are discovering...I'm not saying it's proven yet though it may be...that rather than CO2 in the atmosphere acting as a greenhouse gas and causing the planet to warm, it appears it's the other way around, as global temps rise C02 increases. But the alarmists are still touting their "footprint" hysteria and here comes the politics. Cap & Tax...err, Trade...is designed to tax us to death on everything we need daily. Obama himself said "with my Cap and Trade plan energy costs will necessarily rise significantly" plus other comments about bankrupting power plants that use coal by taxing them some more. So now energy costs skyrocket, the coal industry is put out of business along with millions more jobs associated with it, you know, that trickle down stuff. Green jobs? Forget that too. As I stated in the first comment on this blog, it will be a long, long time before any alternative energy is viable. Then it'll probably all get outsourced to China anyway. If anyone thinks still that all this glo-BULL warming isn't ALL about politics and nothing BUT politics, think again. And to add insult to injury, it's politics on a global scale to boot. The elite will make fortunes, GE stands to make billions, Al Gore stands to become a billionaire and WE get to pay for it all! Once again, there is not, nor ever was, any such thing as "man made global warming"! It is a hoax and nothing but a hoax...every last word of it. But there is good news in all this...the planet is doing just fine! :)
