PAYING MORE FOR ORANGE JUICE?
Written by: Bob Metcalfe
This picture says it all... its bonafide COLD in Florida. Lows dipping well below the freezing point tonight and specifically Sunday night will cause a widespread frost or even freeze for almost every area in central and even southern Florida. These are far and wide record shattering low temperatures they'll experience over the next two nights.
Growers of oranges try to take steps to prevent the freezing of their crops by spraying them with water. What this does is encases the fruit in ice, basically insulating it and attempting to keep warmth inside. At this point though, and with temperatures dipping so far below 32, the outlook isn't good. It'll be interesting to see how orange juice prices respond.
As for us, the coldest weather will be on its way out Sunday. While we start off cold, even below zero for some, we'll return to seasonal norms for the remainder of the week, with a possible jump into the UPPER 30s by Wednesday and Thursday. Time for a thaw!
The models are coming together in the next storm staying well to our South by the end of next weekend. It looks lke high pressure to our North will prevent it from coming North. SHOCKER!!!!!!!
