MARCH COULD BE RECORD SETTING!

Written by: Bob Metcalfe

No picture is necessary for this post, sorry for those of you visual people. Actually, I'm a visual person.

So I was doing some thinking while I was out cleaning up my yard this morning. We had a gorgeous, dry stretch of weather for 5 days just last week. We're going to have another 5 gorgeous rain-free days. That's 10 days total of dry weather, at a minimum. That's 1/3 of a month. Do you get where I'm going with this?

I looked up the top 10 driest March's in Rochester, and right now we're in strong contention for making a spot on the list, that is if no truly major rain falls again. Even with the .67" of rain that fell over Saturday and Sunday, we still only have .75" for the month (do that math, outside of those days, that's a whopping .08", BONE dry!) With no more rain touching the ground this month, we'd place 4th all time for driest March. What's the most we can get and still make the list? 1.14" would make us the definitive #10, 1.15" would tie the 10th place. So that means that we still have 4 tenths of an inch of cushion. The next chance of rain looks to arrive later this weekend, but it won't be anything like this past weekend. So although we're only halfway there, we're still in good shape to break a record this month.

  3. Scott is just taking a couple of days off. He will be back tomorrow. I made the rare evening appearance for Bob. I also mentioned in my post this morning that Scott was just off and would be back on Wednesday.

I know Scott appreciates your concern. Thanks for your comments.

  4. Oh, sorry, I guess I should have read more thoroughly lol. And don't get me wrong, we love all you guys. Just get concerned given what happened the last time Scott took off for a long time. Heart problems are scary.

  5. Jeesh, that makes for a LONG day, Brian. I'd need some serious caffiene to pull that off!

  6. Another interesting point about March precip that you are overlooking. We have had 0" of snow so far in March. As far as I can tell there has never been a March in Rochester without snow. The record I believe is 0.9" in 1946.
No that's a record I'd LOVE to see us break.
Could you imagine a winter with no snow at all in both Nov and March--why it would be like living somewhere normal.

  7. That 0" of snow for March will be history by this time next week. Heck, we might even have a couple inches of snow to wake up to one morning next week. Just another reminder that we don't live somewhere "normal", NY123 lol.
