NOT ALWAYS LUCKY WEATHER ON ST. PATRICK'S DAY

Written By: Scott Hetsko

I've been reading the blog as I always while I was away. I'm touched that you are concerned about my health. I'm so much better than a year ago and recent tests show improvement in my heart so I'm grateful. Thank you for your concern, I can never tell you how much that means to me. Alright, enough sappy stuff. The tremendous weather today had me thinking about past St. Patrick's Day weather in our fair city. Our climate records go back to the early 1880's so we've got alot of years to check!

The warmest day was in 1927 when the mercury soared to 76 degrees! On the other side of the coin, we had bitter cold way back in 1885 with a low of ZERO. You can read the snowiest St. Patrick's Day was in 1974 with 10.4". Speaking of snow, I think we're in for an areawide wet snowfall on Monday with a few inches possible. No big deal but a reminder that March can often flip in just a few hours. Hope you have a great holiday and be safe celebrating!!!!

  1. I'm glad you're doing well, Scott!! Welcome back!

As for the snow, I say bring it on. A few inches this time of year doesn't usually hurt anything. Besides, despite the recent warmth, It's only mid March. It's still too early to expect the trees to bud or anything like that, so it's not like some snow would truly set spring back. And anyway, as we learned in a few posts back, it can actually be beneficial for the farmer's fields. Just have to watch out for the black ice this time of year.

  2. Glad you're doing well, Scott...we do worry when we don't see you for a while! Everyone does a terrific job while you are away, but...just not the same :)

This last official week of winter has been tremendous, almost makes you think the snow is long gone, but, after all, it is Rochester and we all know what that means. More snow for sure, but at least there is light at the end of the tunnel!

  3. Is there an on-line list for Rochester for the annual snowfall totals?
