ARKANSAS FLOOD KILLS AT LEAST 17
Written by: Mike DeNora
On Saturday, a 17th body was found at a campsite in Southwest Arkansas due to a flash flood. The campers were swept away by heavy rains by the Little Missouri river, which caused a 20 foot storm surge over just a 4 hour time period. The intense floods destroyed everything in its path including the campers cabins and trailers. Police are continuing to search for the 24 people that are still unaccounted for. So, what can we learn from this sad event that took place? It is very important to carry a radio that can give constant weather updates. When news breaks of a severe flood it is important to get out of the area as quickly as possible. If it is too late, seek higher ground where the surge will be less intense, since lower elevations will hold more water. Knowing the area and elevation levels are important in surviving these types of situations. Camping can be a fun activity for everyone and with a weather radio on hand everyone can stay safe in a storm outbreak as well.
