DAYS OF 32 OR WARMER IN ROCHESTER
Written by: Brian Neudorff
One of the most popular question we have been receiving over the last few weeks is, "how many days have we been at or above the freezing mark?"
Looking over the preliminary data from the National Weather Service for Rochester, 10 days in December were at or above 32 degrees, 8 in January and so far only 3 in February.
Here are a few more stats. In December, the warmest temperatures was 58 on the 1st the coldest was 7 on the 9th. In January, the year and month started off with 56 and on two days the low hit -8 on the 23rd and 24th. Then for February, we've only hit 36 on the 7th and this morning (11th) we started the morning at 4 below.
Pretty cold seems to be the theme for sure. heard somewhere the really cold temps in the winter can actually make for a sweeter apple crop the following summer/fall. Any growers out there know if this is true?
ReplyDeleteno snowstorms coming its going to be like 50 this week!!!
ReplyDeleteHaving what i would call the most intense snow squall/white out I've seen all winter. Blowing through Lyons right now at 1pm. Literally can't see across the street.
ReplyDeletesame kind of conditions in Brighton but it is clear now

Past posts about subjects other than weather have been deleted and will in the future. The intent here is to share thoughts about weather not anything else. Thanks for understanding!

Good call, Scott. My wife and I were just saying that those posts should be removed. I love this blog. Don't want to see it go downhill with topics un-related to it's intent --weather.
ReplyDeleteBack to weather....conditions across Genesee county have been down right dangerous today. Accidents have been pouring in all across the county all day long. Routes 77 on the west side of the county, and route 19 on the east side, were both shut down due to multiple accidents at one point today. Moderate snow in the AM and then blowing and drifting was the cause. Drive safe on those north-south roads!
Thanks Scott! Welcome Stacey and yes, it was snowing today for a while harder than I've seen it all winter! I like the bonus snow the best! :)
ReplyDeleteAny thoughts about how long this warm up will last? Will it affect all areas of NY or just western and central NY? I can't help but to notice that the zone of warmer air seems to be cut off below a line that is parallel with the south shore of Lake Ontario.
ReplyDeleteThis break will only last a few days then it's back to normal cold around here. I don't see any brutally cold weather the next 10 days in Rochester.

Funny video about global warming panic. Must see it. I'd like to hear some of your thoughts on it:

Haha, that was ridiculous, and the worst part of it is that people genuinely believe that!
