MORE WINTRY IN DALLAS THAN ROCHESTER?

Written by: Brian Neudorff
Do you think John Kucko expected this kind of weather when he traveled down to Dallas to cover the Super Bowl? Tuesday they had ice then snow which shut down the Dallas-Fort Worth airport. Then another storm last night and Friday has put down nearly five inches of snow in Dallas. At times the temperature in Dallas was colder than it was in Green Bay or Pittsburgh.
From Brownsville, Texas, to Lake Charles, La., people were waking up to an unusual mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain. This nasty wintry mix will continue today through Mississippi, Tennessee, and parts of Alabama before this storm moves east and up the coast.
Here locally that system will have very little impact on our weather Saturday or Sunday. Most of the snow will stay well east and southeast. If we get any snow maybe a coating, I really can't see much more than that. Have a great weekend and although the result Wednesday was not what many were hoping for it was really fun here Mon & Tue.
Brian and/or Scott,
ReplyDeleteCould you please weigh in on the following quote from Joe Bastardi regarding a storm of biblical proportions according to him? What is this all about:
"An atmospheric apocalypse. In all the years that I’ve gone back and researched, I cannot find anything to match the severity of what’s coming next week. It will be the week of all winter weeks. Will be like surviving a nuclear war and coming out of the bunker afterwards to find devastation. Severe cold and a superstorm that is perhaps unequaled in winter weather history."
This above quote is in reference to a snow storm that is apparently supposed to devastate the eastern U.S late next week? What is this?
ReplyDeleteI saw that post on JB's pro site. He's talking about a storm never seen in history that will hit the eastern US late next week. I know JB tends to hype, but i've never heard him use such strong words ever. He seems to be down right scared of this one...
ReplyDeleteHe was talking about this on his facebook page a bit as well. I'm curious too.
ReplyDeleteScott and Brian,
ReplyDeleteYou gentlemen definitely must weigh in on this one. It sounds really bad.
I heard he likes to go by the pen name "Andrew".
ReplyDeleteCome on guys you know this is just JB going with major hype. DK can not believe you are getting sucked in with this?
ReplyDeleteNormally I wouldn't, Anonymous, but JB has high paying clients that he's responsible to. He most certainly hypes up his forecasts, no doubt about it. But these are pretty alarming words even for his standards. I'm not saying I believe it, so i'm not sucked into it yet. I'm just very interested in what on earth he seems to be seeing to make him go out to the public with such a statement.
ReplyDeleteI was just looking at model runs not knowing any of this while doing so - and obviously it's far out, but next week really does look nasty. GFS has extremely low temps hitting most of the US at one point or another. Storm potential looks good too. Those are definitely strong words, but I'm excited to see what pans out.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read it yet. I will have to go over it and also look at his video. To the person who said JB likes to hype are correct. He is a very smart man but let's look at what AccuWeather has done in the past. Remember the "Snowicane" or "Snow Hurricane" that was supposed to happen last year.
ReplyDeleteI will agree those are big words and claims. Just reading them out of context makes me suspicious - Brian
Does it really matter what JB says because first of all do not see anything on the models that would suggest a super storm. Plus you know it will not hit us anyway because of past storms and more importantly Andrew told us. I think I can no longer stay positive just can not get a good storm in the flower city.
ReplyDeleteYes Henry, I agree. I have enjoyed my 2 year stay in NY but look forward to getting back home to Nashville where summers ate long and HOT with short winters that usually never get below 25. But hey, my 4 wheel drive is going in for a touch of body work and a fresh paint job then off for a motor bore and rebuild so maybe that will help bring the snow. It would figure, no 4 wheel drive and it snows like crazy!!
