High Heat & Humidity Memorial Day Afternoon

Written by John DiPasquale:

Near record heat on this Memorial Day afternoon in the wake of Monday morning's warm front that produced a few showers & storms.  Highs on Memorial Day will reach the low 90s, which will be very close to the record of 93 set back in 1911!  Your holiday will be the first day in Rochester that the mercury will likely hit 90 or better since last July 23rd!  Yes, it has been awile for sure.  Most of the area should stay dry through Memorial Day afternoon with a pretty good deal of hazy sun & a southwest breeze heating &steaming us up, as the top pic above displays.

The second pic shows a cold front moving through later Tuesday afternoon/evening with some showers & storms, a few of which could turn severe late tonight through Tuesday.  Stay tuned to News 8 for the latest.  Behind the cold front, it will turn more seasonable for Wednesday with some sun, & a nice refreshing breeze.

A second, reinforcing cold front will blow through late Wednesday night/Thursday morning with a shower or two, & in it's wake it will turn kind of chilly Thursday & cool to round out the week.  Highs, despite some sun on Thursday will struggle to make the mid to upper 60s, while 65 to 70 will likely be felt Friday with sun fading behind clouds & a shower or two possible drifting in from the south late.  Bottom line, we will feel some big relief from the 24 to 30 hour bout of heat & humidity to start the week & kick off the unofficial start to the summer season.

Have a great Memorial Day, & be safe & try to stay cool WNY!  Thank you to those who have perished while serving/defending our country on this Memorial Day.
