Nice Change!

Written by John DiPasquale:

Well after being so dry for quite some time, we finally received a more appreciable widespread rain, which was most significant in the Greater Rochester area over the past couple of days, as the map on top depicts.  The culprits, as expected were a warm & cold front, plus the area of fairly strong low pressure system that was responsible for producing these fronts & dragging them through.  The lower pic displays the rain received this month so far through midnight Thursday night.  Still there is deficit that's pretty significant, but nothing like it was just 2 days ago when all the rain Rochester had picked up was 0.24" all month!  We should tack on a little more to the July rainfall #'s over the next 24 hours, & then probably again next Tuesday, the last day of July!  It's amazing how one storm system can change things so fast!  The driest July ever recorded would likely have been in jeopardy if it wasn't for the latest storm system.

On this Friday, there will be the chance of a bit more rain later this afternoon through early Saturday afternoon thanks to an upper air disturbance that's slowly making it's way through the Central Great Lakes.  Any storm that develops late today & early tonight could get strong, but should not be a huge deal.  We will keep an eye on it though.  Highs today will make the low 80s.

The weekend will likely start off quite gloomy and a bit damp at times, but during the afternoon we should experience more & more sun developing, as drier air settles in with high pressure from the west.  That same area of high pressure will crest over the region Sunday & set us up for a real gem to end the weekend!  Highs will be around 80 Saturday, into the low 80s Sunday.

Have a nice end to the week & weekend WNY!
