Wet N' Mild to End Summer & Chilly to Start Fall
After a very nice summer's day on this Friday, the weather will go down hill for Saturday as a strong slow moving cold front crawls through. This will lead to a soaking rain, that will be heavy at times, with an embedded storm or two possible. A good 1 to 2" or so is a distinct possibility for many on Saturday, which could lead to urban & small stream flooding in spots & possibly a little flash flooding. Bottom line, the weather is likely going to be quite nasty on Saturday with the rain, but temperatures will actually be pretty seasonal, as highs should be up near 70 during the midday, before cooling back into the low to mid 60s by day's end. It should also be breezy & a little muggy for awhile.
The air will turn colder later Saturday night into Sunday as we dry out quite a bit, but maybe not totally due to a little lake effect. A gusty, chilly northwest wind will develop Saturday night into Sunday, & as the air turns much colder there will likely be some lake clouds & possibly a few scattered showers around, but overall it will be a much drier day & the better of the two weekend days for sure. This is good news for the Rochester Marathon participants! Yours truly included in on the Rochester Marathon. If you are going to be out cheering on the runners be sure to be bundled up as temperatures will begin Sunday in the upper 40s to low 50s with a gusty wind & possibly a shower or two. Highs on Sunday will likely not even get out of the 50s & the wind will make it feel even colder. Autumn will officially begin late Sunday afternoon @ 4:44PM, & Mother Nature will be providing the classic later October feel.
A large area of high pressure to the north for much of the first week of fall will likely set us up for more amazing weather most of next week with lots of sun & highs going from near 60 Monday, to nearing 70 Tuesday & solid 70s Wednesday & Thursday, before MAYBE even warmer yet by next Friday, but that is still a ways away so we'll see...

Very impressive rainfall amounts for a cold front. Already over 2 inches for some folks to our west, with a lot more on the way. Now if only we could get one of these to roll through in mid January...

The wind shift from southerly to northerly occurred, and THEN the precipitation began. If the opposite had occurred, and the precip was oriented in skinny lines rather than a huge blob, that would indicate that this a katafront.
