11 P.M. SATURDAY NIGHT UPDATE
Written By: Scott Hetsko
So far about 1/2 the expected precipitation forecast has fallen and thankfully mostly as rain. I do expect temperatures to continue to fall to between 29 and 34 degrees overnight. Areas that are now seeing freezing rain will likely wake up to between 1/2" to 3/4" of ice accumulation. This amount of ice isn't guaranteed to cause widespread loss of power ESPECIALLY because we don't expect winds to pick up until Sunday afternoon. Some outages are possible where over 1/2" of ice falls overnight. Rain will continue to fall, heavy at times overnight. Temperatures should warm well above freezing by 7 or 8 in the morning.
Please keep reporting YOUR weather where you are. On nights like this, weather varies mile to mile. I hope you all wake to full power in the morning.
The Fat Lady is singing-- it's dropped to 30-31 in Gates-- we are dead. Strangely I don't see anything on trees yet. I just saw a car stop at the stop sign (amazing in itself) and he did not have a problem.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are right about it being above 32 by 8AM. 9 hours of this crap should do plenty of damage--more is going to be catastrophe.
Dude calm down, it would take a lot more ice than we are in line for to cause any widespread serious issues. Damage/power outages will be isolated.
DeleteAirport now at 32 degrees. My house just south of the airport is also at 32.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Monday night may give us enough snow to salvage a white Christmas.
Just started freezing here in Webster.
ReplyDelete31 in NE Fairport and definitely starting to freeze over
ReplyDeleteLeft North Greece on the immediate lakeshore at 11:15pm…was 32 F, rain/sleet mix, with some light ice forming on untreated surfaces. Home in Penfield, halfway between Webster and Fairport, where it is also 32 F and ice is forming on untreated surfaces. My car that is outside, and not driven today, has a light coating of ice on it (Probably .10"). Roads between Greece and Penfield are fine…just wet. Precip is mostly rain (80%).
ReplyDeleteIce coating on tree in front yard also…I hear the ice crackling as it flexes in the wind.
DeleteJust rain in Gananda and 33 degrees. Very thankful as this will not be a big deal for most. Bring on some snow.
ReplyDeleteMost of us are at 32 or below right now though.
ReplyDelete31 at my house with a decent coating of ice on most surfaces. Gonna be a rough night for me -_-
Thin visible ice sheen on the trees and my deck in Henrietta. Road itself looks wet, but I didn't actually go out. Less than a tenth I'd say at this point. But an evening of this and I could see a 1/4" by morning?
ReplyDeleteIce beginning to accumulate in Chili.
ReplyDeleteToronto getting crushed they may have our 1991. We got lucky here with this one.
ReplyDeletealthough not a significant amount yet, ice is coating the tree branches, the driveway (I slipped walking to my car), and my car here in Spencerport north of the canal
ReplyDeleteA little coating on the tree...anyone see the bolt of lightning and then the clap of thunder here in Greece? We are North of Latta, by 390
ReplyDeleteBig lul in the precip. Most is North. NBD for us.
ReplyDeleteIt's north and west, heading east. Which is really, really bad because my basement has begun to flood...
DeleteWhite Christmas is gone for most. Minimal chances of snow for the next few days.
ReplyDeleteNothing worth mentioning in Lyons. A little ice in spots but nothing heavy. I think we dodged a bullet.
ReplyDeleteYes 2:11 Anonymous! I woke up around 2:00 to the sound of pouring rain against the windows and heard a few pretty big thunder boomers! Crazy weather. I do hope we get a bit of lake snow for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteLooks to be pretty quiet for the next week or so. Not much going on.
ReplyDeleteA little light icing in the trees in NE Fairport, but not much else. We dodged a major ice storm, it seems by less than a degree.
ReplyDeleteNow let's hope for a little help from the lakes for at least a dusting by Christmas.
Andy
What happened to 45 today??? Temp hasn't budged from 32- 33 all day. We need to get some of the ice off tree limbs before wind starts. Looks like not going to happen.
ReplyDeleteTemperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s 15-20 miles South of Monroe county. It will be hard to scour out the cold but warm air is VERY close.
ReplyDeletePretty bizarre. Any hopes for a dusting or more by Christmas?
DeleteAndy
Any chance of more ice tonight?? Rain is not stopping and temp is going nowhere (33- 34)?. Just a feeling that this monster isn't done with us.
ReplyDeleteWondering the same thing myself. Wasn't it supposed to be milder today? Hearing mid-40s to 50s. It was 34 degrees yesterday, and it's a whopping 35 now. I suppose, technically, it is milder. Kind of a joke.
DeleteThe precipitation will be down to mid-chance range by the time we get below freezing. Once the front works far enough north the temperature will rise rather quickly.
DeleteOK, temp up to 40, trees look MUCH better in a very short time. Evergreens are upright again and branches of others are almost all unburdened. WHEW.
ReplyDeleteWhy are the counties South of Lake Erie under a Lake effect snow watch for 7 or more inches of snow on a NW wind and the counties South of lake Ontario look to not get much at all under a NW wind. A NW wind is favorable for Rochester especially with a Huron connection.
ReplyDeleteI believe atmospheric conditions are much more favorable west of here for LES
DeleteAll quiet for at least the next 10 days. No big storms popping up on the models. It will be a quiet transition to 2014 and that is ok.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like we will end up below normal for snow in December.
ReplyDeleteAre you for real? We're only 5 inches away from our December average as it is. I wouldn't qualify that as "well below normal." And we might get a few inches tonight and tomorrow as well, with other minor snowfalls waiting in the wings. I'd bet half of a farm we'll end up near normal.
