SYRACUSE LEADS IN SNOW DERBY!
Written by: Scott Hetsko
What a Winter it has been so far in Western New York! As expected from our long range forecast in November, we've begun the season colder and snowier than average. Check out the snowfall tallies across upstate as of Wednesday. Every major thruway city is 20 to nearly 50" above the average to date.
Syracuse almost always is the big winner for snowfall mainly due to their location Southeast of Lake Ontario. They see prevailing Northwest winds which produce lake effect snow. Buffalo may begin to see their numbers fall behind now that Lake Erie is almost frozen over. Lake effect relies on open lake water to thrive!
