Our Brief Warm-Up

Written by: Brian Neudorff

Today looks like it will be one of the warmest day we've experienced all month long. In fact, if we go over 38 degrees it will be the warmest day of the month and so far this year. This is the longest we've waited for a temperature to reach 40 degrees in a new year since 1984. The last time we reached 40 degrees was back on December 29, 2008.

It looks pretty good that we will reach 40 but don't expect it to stick around. A very fast moving low pressure system will move across the northeast Friday night. It has very little moisture associated with it, so not much in the way of snow is expected, but once again our temperatures are going to plunge back into the teens and single digits for the weekend.

Scott wrote, "Where's the January Thaw?" on Tuesday, at that time we were 5 degrees below the monthly average temperature. As of Thursday, we are now 5.7 degrees below average with more cold air on the way.
