Great Lakes Produce Late February Snow

Written by: Brian Neudorff

Another shot of cold arctic air flowing over Lake Erie and Lake Ontario will bring us another round of lake effect snow showers. Highs will be in the 20s, winds will be out of the west-northwest and this will allow for multiple bands of lake effect to form off the south and southeastern shores of Lake Ontario.

There are lake effect advisories and warnings. Monroe, Genesee and Orleans counties are under the lake effect advisory for the potential of 2 to 5 inches. Not everyone will see that little or that much, it all depends on how the bands set up as we go through out the day.

Lake effect snow warning is in place for Wayne county, especially the northeastern corner where stronger bands could form. Around Sodus & Fair Haven, amounts could range 4 to 8 inches and place could get more if a band hovers over one location for any length of time.

If you are out Monday, sun could be shining then you could drive into a whiteout of snow. Be careful and check for weather updates at RochesterHomepage.net.
