SPRING IS (ALMOST) HERE! SO WHAT'S THAT MEAN?

Written by: Bob Metcalfe

So at 7:44am on Friday, the Spring season is officially here. Yay! We all rejoice. We all know that this means we are that much closer to warmer weather and eventually summer. But why do we pick the 20th or 21st of March? What makes this time so special?

Well folks, you may have heard the term "equinox" before. No, not the Chevy SUV, but the atmospheric/celestial occurrence. This is the time of year when the length of daylight is approximately equal to the length of night (12 hours to 12 hours.) Beyond the vernal (spring) equinox, we see our daylight hours increase well into the summer, before they begin to shrink down towards the fall.

So, as our daylight hours shrink back to times where there is less than 12 hours of light, you guessed it, there's another equinox. The Autumnal equinox marks the start of the Fall season, and falls on September 22. But let's enjoy the warming months and longer days shall we?!
