WHERE'S SUMMER?
Written by: Brian Neudorff
That is one of the many questions I've been asked over the last few weeks. Other ones have been like this, "What is up with this crazy weather?" I'll tell you what I tell them, it is all in the pattern we're experiencing.
During a typical summer, the jet stream will be more to our north in Canada and allowing all the warmth from the south to enter the Northeast and the lower Great Lakes. So far this summer, the jet stream has been more to our south which has blocked that warmth from arriving, so keeping us cool and well below average. Storm systems also ride along the jet stream and so we have been in a stormy pattern, and last week, a storm system was "cut-off" from the main flow of the jet stream which allowed for several days of unsettled weather.
As we start a new week looks like a similar pattern continues. Monday and Tuesday the jet stream sags south through the Ohio Valley and southern Pennsylvania. This will keep us on the cool side of things and another upper level storm system will slide in and produce more unsettled weather with scattered showers and thunderstorms. The good news is this storm system doesn't get cut off and we will dry out by the middle of the week and hopefully see temperatures back up to near summer levels by the end of the week.
