CANANDAIGUA TORNADO?

Written by: Bob Metcalfe

At approximately 1pm today (Saturday, August 29), there were reports of widespread wind damage in Canandaigua, specifically along West Lake Drive. Large trees were snapped in half, and several boats at the marina were tossed, turned, and even flipped upside down. The damage pictures are quite impressive, and will be posted at a later time.

Our Dunn Tire Radar indicated a well defined area of rotation in the upper atmosphere in the West Lake area at precisely 1PM. The NWS office in Buffalo sent a surveying crew out to the area to assess the damage and see if they could confirm that it was in fact in line with a tornado. Our reporters were told that this was confirmed, however the official press release has not been posted yet. It should be up sometime late this evening.

Regardless, it was a very compact but clearly impressive storm. Damage photos will follow shortly.
