STEVEN HAWKING: ABANDON THE EARTH!

Written by: Bob Metcalfe

Steven Hawking could be arguably one of the most brilliant physicists on the earth. When he speaks, people usually listen. His latest statement: Earth isn't enough for long-term human existence!

In this article, Hawking mentions the selfish, survival characteristics of humans that have helped us evolve over time. He thinks that with the limited number of resources on this planet, we have no choice but to expand into space if we are to survive for thousands (or a million) years.

He also said that we should be very careful when trying to contact aliens, as we cannot guarantee their friendliness.

I think one of the most chilling quotes from this is here:

"The planet will be fine and heal; it is man who will vanish," he wrote. "... If we develop the technology for space travel, we will do the same to that environment, until we learn not to. Man will become extinct due to his greed."

Sobering to say the least. His thoughts may seem a bit wacky, but his insight is nonetheless interesting and probably has some (scary) truth to it. The article can be seen here.

  1. I don't find his thoughts "wacky." They make perfect sense, unfortunately. We can only hide behind our artificial numbers and power suits for so long. Our reality will catch up with us eventually.

And like he pointed out, the earth will be just fine. It's frozen and burned in cycles time and time again. It's humans that won't be. But in the end, does it really matter? We are but a blink in this infinite thing we call "time."

  3. It is all in God's hands. We think or we want to believe we are in control, but we are not. God is in perfect control and this earth will eventually pass away in his perfect timing.
