UPDATE ON EARL
WRITTEN BY: Bob Metcalfe
Earl is now officially a cat. 1 as of this writing. But he will pack quite the punch in the coming days as he's likely to grow into the cat 3/4 range by Wednesday. He'll have a run in with the Leeward islands in the near term, but fortunately not a direct impact. Also of note is the fact that when he's strongest, he'll be out to sea. But look at the path at left. Notice a possible impact on the NORTHEAST coast?! That's quite interesting and remember that uncertainty this far out can me huge swings in the official forecast track over the next several days. Earl will be something to watch for the next week for sure.
This could be a hurricane that hits Long Island or somewhere on the New England coast. The GFS has it just offshore all the way up the East Coast and then possible land fall in New England.
