LAKE EFFECT IS NOT ONLY ABOUT SNOW

Written By: Scott Hetsko

Heat capacity plays such a major role in our day to day weather in Western New York. The fact that the Great Lakes have a MUCH greater capacity to retain heat verses land results in much of our annual snowfall. The lakes also provide cooler air and clearer skies during Spring and Summer months.

Tonight a circulation of milder air from the lake will insure that frost will only form away from Ontario. If you live within a 1/2 mile or so from the shore, temperatures for you will stay a little too mild for frost. The coldest air will collect in the valleys where temperatures may fall into the 20s in a few towns early Wednesday!
