MORE OF THE SAME - CLOUDY DAMP & DREARY
Written by: Brian Neudorff
We are locked into a persistent pattern over the next few days where skies will be cloudy & gray with off and on showers. The reason for this is that a storm system over the Mid-Atlantic has been cut off from the main flow of the jet stream.
The jet stream is a fast moving highway of air that steers and moves most of the weather systems across the country from west to east. In this situation, the storm system in the upper levels of the atmosphere gets removed or "cut off" from jet stream. Because there is nothing to move it, the system remains nearly stationary and keeps the same weather stuck over the region for several days.
Although most of our week will be gray and unsettled there's some good news by the end of the week. The jet stream that is currently dipping south will start to lift back north. This will catch the stalled system push it north and allow for sunshine and warmer air to arrive by Friday. Highs will be near 70 and lots of sunshine.
This weather really bites. This dreary and dismal part of Rochester is really depressing. It seems like it has been one rain storm after another. Watch!!! When winter comes the pattern will change to NO STORMS!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry...not this year. This will be the year of potent alberta clippers that strengthen as they cross the great lakes and tap into gulf moisture. There will be lots of quick hitting 4-8" storms with additional north of the t-way with lake enhancement. I agree w/ Scott that 100" may be hit easily this year. stay hopeful, my fellow snow lovers. It's another winter and a completely different pattern now.
