Still a Chill, but a Little Better Today

Hello everyone,

Well, we hit the mid 30s with full sun yesterday, which was still over 10 degrees below average! Today will be slightly better temperature wise, but we will see less sunshine. There's even a chance of a passing flurry/snow shower through the early afternoon.

Some more in the way of sun will reappear tomorrow & possibly Thursday, aiding in a slow moderating trend through Thursday. By Thursday, we should hit the mid 40s, which is closer to the seasonal average for the last day of March.

Come Friday we are watching a storm, nor'easter, that could affect the region to end the week & start the weekend. At this point, indications are that the storm pictured above will take the bulk of it's moisture to the east of our area, but if there's a slight track change to the west the joke will be on us from mother nature on April fools day. Stay tuned News 8 for the latest through the rest of the week.

Have a great day everyone!

Well, with the Arctic Oscillation forecasted to just about go off the charts into positive territory, here's to hope that the second half of April will turn warm!

  2. Hello and welcome John. It is nice to have you.
On another note, I am surprised it is so quiet today. What are the current thoughts about the potenial storm on Friday?

  3. Welcome John. Are you the meteorologist from Fox23?

Looking at the latest data, I gotta agree with John, and what Scott has been saying. Looks like MOSTLY a miss for us. No complaints here. This cold has really broken down even the biggest snow enthusiast.

  4. There seems to be a general consensus amongst most that the NAO will be going way positive around the 7th of April. If that's the case, is that what we need to break the back of winter and get into a lasting springtime pattern?

  5. The AO (Arctic Oscillation) will be going nearly off the charts into positive territory. That could also favor warmth. Not to mention the PNA going negative in the coming weeks.

I'd be interesting to hear what Scott thinks about these indices as well. I'm rooting for a quick snap to spring sometime during the second half of April.

  6. I've been saying and hoping that we'll see a dramatic turn toward warmer air say after April 9-11th time frame. I think mid month 60s and 70s a good bet sometime around or just before Easter.

A touch of light snow possible on the edge of this storm Wednesday night and early Thursday. T-1" at most I think from that one.

  7. Ahh, if that warmth could time up just as us teachers are off for spring break, it would be splendid!

  9. The warmth is too late for opening day at frontie field.

  10. I am so freaking glad that the storm is going to our east. Ready to move on to spring it will be warm from after next week and beyond.

  11. I agree. Can't wait for the warmer air to come in. The snow was lots of fun this winter, but it has overstayed its welcome, as has the cold air.

Scott's outlook for later in April is encouraging. Things could change, of course, but I just can't see how we wouldn't turn much warmer with the Arctic Oscillation going nearly off the charts positive in about two weeks from now. For those unfamiliar with the term, a positive AO basically means the cold air tends to get locked up in the Arctic (where it belongs), rather than spilling south across the lower 48. I said it before, and i'll say it again - The second half of April may end up being quite a reversal from the first half. And that's fine by me! Let's get those lilacs blooming on Highland Ave!
