Somewhat Unsettled Today

Written by John DiPasquale:

Well, we lucked out yesterday with some sun & much warmer temperatures, but today we will not have as much fortune. Yes, we will see intervals of sun from time to time, but there will be a scattering of showers & a few storms moving through especially during the late morning & afternoon hours. The cold air & upper air energy associated with the upper level low will aid in the development of t-storms this afternoon. Any storm that does pop today & early tonight will have the potential to become strong with heavy rains, gusty winds & some hail. Stay tuned to News 8 for the latest regarding this potential on News 8 at Noon with Meteorologist John DiPasquale & again this evening with Chief Meteorologist Scott Hetsko.

Showers & storms will taper to just a few scattered showers & drizzle late tonight into the start of our Friday. The stubborn, slow moving low will thankfully slide just off to the east as Friday progresses, which should allow us to dry some & get breaks/intervals of sun out during the afternoon. However, with the heating of the day on Friday I still believe there will be a few pop up showers/storm around during the afternoon, but I think the showers & storms will be most widespread off the east of the Rochester area closer to the weakening upper level storm. So Friday should get better as the day goes on for the most part.

Your weekend as of now looks pretty good Saturday with weak high pressure settling in, but with that said I still cannot rule out a passing shower or two in spots. Overall, though, Saturday looks like the best day of the weekend. Sunday will not be bad, but as a warm front approaches there will be more clouds & a few scattered showers/storm scooting through. Temperatures will be in the low to mid 70s Saturday & mid to upper 70s Sunday. Overall, the weekend isn't looking too bad.

Unfortunately, it still does not look like there will be any major changes to the unsettled, cooler pattern right into the start of June.

  1. I live in the Northern Finger Lakes. Is it too early to plant my small veggie garden? Or should I wait until next weekend?

  2. I'm an avid gardener. It's not the temps you need to be concerned with, but the soil conditions. My dirt is mud! Not good planting conditions. It needs to dry up. We need several days of warm sunshine to get that done, not these occasional good days we've had this spring.
