Sun Develops for All Today!
Written by John DiPasquale:
A little rain fell around Rochester late Monday into last night, mainly from about the city & points east, especially out toward Penn Yan, Geneva & Seneca Falls where about 1 to 2" of rain fell from about late yesterday through last night! The storm responsible for the occasional rains since late Saturday is finally slowly pulling away from New England, which will lead to improving weather for everyone across WNY today. It will be seasonably mild with highs in the upper 70s to around 80 later this afternoon.
Tonight will be quiet & comfy with a clear to partly cloudy sky & some areas of fog developing. Lows will range from about 55 to 60 tonight. High pressure will keep us protected through Wednesday with some more sun & highs between 80 & 85.
On Thursday, we will have to likely contend with a weakening cold front that should trigger a few scattered showers & storms as it passes through. It will be warm & muggy Thursday with highs remaining in the low to mid 80s.
Behind the cold front, it will turn a bit cooler & less humid for Friday with some sun. Highs to end the week will likely be around 80.
Your weekend right now appears fairly nice & warm with some sun both days, but there may be a few scattered showers & storms developing later Sunday ahead & with a cold front. Highs will be in the low to mid 80s through the weekend. Much cooler & less humid weather will likely follow Sunday night's cold front. Stay tuned to News 8 weather for updates regarding our chances of rain through the weekend.
Not much talk about the big rains in Wayne County from last night! I had 2.15 inches of rain at my house in Lyons. It all came within two hours time.
ReplyDeleteZip code rain indeed. Sunday night we only had .5 inches of gentle rain. Monday night we had 2.6 inches and had to close the golf course to golf carts for the day on Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteWe have reverted back to early spring when it was so wet. Yuck!! I tell you though I like the nice green grass again.
ReplyDeleteSodus Bay Golf Club Supt - 2.6 inches?? Wow. That all came during a short time too. I live on Lake Road and ran up to CVS in Sodus on my motorcycle at 8:00pm and got caught in that rain on the way home. I thought it would pass quickly, but it just coming for 2-3 hours!
ReplyDeleteChris, how much snow do you get up there in the winter? Do you get more snow there than the Rochester area because of lake effect? or is it about the same?
ReplyDeleteIt depends upon many factors. If there is a strong NW wind, a lot of the lake effect will blow right over us and be deposited inland near 104, which is five miles south of here. Every now and then, with the wind just right, a streamer will set up right through here all the way to Syracuse and we will get several inches while there are just flurries in Monroe County. Absent any hard data, I would guess that we average 20-30" more than the airport, but again, it is so subjective. NE Wayne County probably gets in excess of 150". They always seem to get the snow as that part of the county juts out into the lake and can get snow on a west wind where we need a NW wind to get anything.
