What makes a Blizzard so special?
Two things really define a blizzard: Wind and visibility. Sustained winds of 35 mph combined with low visibilities (1/4 or less) make a snowstorm a blizzard. The conditions must last for at least 3 continuous hours. The term blizzard is often kicked around when a snowstorm dumps a hefty amount of snowfall.
